Getting What I Wanted Didn’t Make Me Feel Better

I am honored to share that VoyageMIA Magazine featured me in their Inspiring Conversations series. They asked about how Mindful Vibes came to be, and I ended up telling some stories I don’t talk about very often.

The sunrise that didn’t last

For years I believed that once my circumstances changed, I would finally feel better. At one point I was convinced that getting out of debt was the answer. When I made my last payment in 2014, I went to the beach the next morning to watch the sunrise and celebrate. I felt great, and then the anxiety and dissatisfaction came back.

As I told VoyageMIA, “I had changed the circumstance, but I hadn’t changed my relationship with myself.”

The business that closed

I also shared what happened when I quit my PR job at 27 to start a professional organizing company, sure I’d be on Oprah within a year or two. The 2008 recession had other plans, and I went from building my dream to a $10-an-hour clerical job. It took me years to come back from that, and it taught me more about starting over than almost anything else has.

Who my work is for

If you’re the capable one everyone counts on and you’ve noticed yourself snapping at the people you love or saying yes to things you have no room for, this part of the interview is for you:

“If you’ve already done a lot of the work through therapy, books, journaling, and self-reflection, and you’re having the same reactions, there may be another dimension of the work worth exploring beyond what you can think your way through.”

There’s more in the full piece, including the flyer that changed the direction of my life and what I really think about luck.
